Does OctoRead provide books or content sources?
No. OctoRead is a purely local reading tool. It neither bundles nor recommends any content sources. You import your own TXT / EPUB books, or write and import your own rule configurations — how you use it is up to you.
Which book formats are supported?
TXT and EPUB import locally, Wi-Fi transfer straight from your computer, and WebDAV backup & restore for your whole library. A migration assistant helps you move over from other reader apps.
Does read-aloud require a network connection?
The default high-quality online voice needs a network; if the connection drops, playback automatically falls back to the system voice without stopping. Download an offline neural voice pack for high-quality narration with no network at all.
Where is my data stored?
Only on your device. OctoRead runs no servers of its own — no account, no ads, no tracking — and declares “Data Not Collected” on the App Store privacy label. WebDAV backups live in your own storage.
Is OctoRead free?
The complete core reading and listening experience is included. Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks every advanced capability. No subscriptions, no traps.
What system version do I need?
An iPhone or iPad running iOS / iPadOS 26 or later.
